(DICTATING MACHINE, PORTABLE, MICRO CASSETTE)
The General Services Administration has authorized
the use of this commercial item description.
This description covers portable (handheld) dictating machines.
Salient characteristics.
Design. Design shall be such as to provide for ease of use with all operating controls easily accessible and convenient to the user; with each control marked so as to be readily recognizable as to intended function.
Power. Self-contained non-rechargeable battery (ies) and 120 volt AC 60 Hz or nickel cadmium batteries and 120 volt AC 60 Hz, as specified. One (1) set of non-rechargeable battery (ies) and one (1) AC adapter shall be furnished with each dictating machine or one (1) set of nickel cadmium battery (ies) with recharger and one (1) AC adapter shall be furnished with each dictating machine as specified in the contract or order.
Circuitry. Solid state.
Tape drive. Capstan.
Size (maximum). 5-3/4” x 3-3/4” x 2“.
Recording medium. Micro cassette. One cassette shall be
provided with each unit.
Recording speed. Manufacturer’s standard.
Recording time (minimum). 60 minutes.
Operational features, functions and controls.
Dictation/recording through built-in microphone.
Playback through built-in-speaker.
Indexing: Electronic (audible, visual (LED) or combination) to mark end of letters and instructions.
Start/stop control.
Adequate adjustable playback volume.
Automatic gain control.
Record function and control.
Playback function and control.
